As we celebrate Father's Day this month, we are reminded that being a dad is a constant juggling act of work, family commitments, and personal well-being. It takes a special kind of dedication (and a lot of heart) to carve out time for personal health while also stepping up as a community leader. Yet, right in our own neighbourhoods, there are everyday role models doing just that. They lead by example, proving that it’s possible to weave fitness, family time, and community service into one deeply rewarding lifestyle.
We sat down with Bruno, a dedicated health club member to learn more about what fuels his drive and how he manage to juggle it all with an infectious energy that inspires those around them.
Finding Joy in Community Leadership
When asked what drives him to show up and lead by example week after week, Bruno explains that community involvement isn't just an obligation; it is a vital part of creating spaces where everyone feels connected.
"I love coming to BlueFit Sans Souci Leisure Centre because it’s a wonderful community. I’ve made about 15 or 20 friends here, and we even catch up socially outside the gym. When people mention that I'm looking fitter and seem to have more energy, I tell them it's a mix of my daily walks and my regular routine at the pool and gym."
Blending Family, Fitness, and Fun
Of course, maintaining that kind of commitment requires plenty of stamina. While health and fitness can sometimes feel like a chore, Bruno brings incredible energy to his routine by centering it around connection and shared family experiences.
"Above all else, my motivation comes down to family. My wife is remarkably fit and active, and with young children and grandkids in my life, I want to keep up with every single one of them. Staying healthy lets me join in on their adventures, get out into nature, and truly cherish the quality time and bonds we share."
By surrounding himself and his family with a strong local support system and prioritising active time together, exercise becomes a rewarding social activity rather than isolated gym time.
Practical Advice for Juggling It All
For other dads in the community wondering how to successfully balance taking care of their own health while still being present for their families and neighbourhoods, Bruno offers highly practical advice rooted in consistency.
"Look, I know it's hard, very hard, but even starting with 30 to 60 minutes every other day is a huge step in the right direction. It's worth making the effort for your family. Staying active lets you keep up with your kids, share in their experiences, and truly enjoy those moments together."
By making health a priority, finding balance becomes much easier. Bruno reminds us that stepping up for our families and communities starts with making the conscious choice to prioritise health, and bringing our loved ones along for the journey!
