WORLD DROWNING PREVENTION DAY

Tuesday the 25th of July is World Drowning Prevention Day, and this year the theme is ‘Anyone can drown, no one should’.

World Drowning Prevention Day is an annual advocacy event dedicated to raising awareness around drowning. This global recognition is an opportunity to educate our communities about the impact of drowning and the life-saving solutions that prevent it.

It is estimated that 236,000 people die from drowning globally every year. That equates to 2.5 million deaths over the past decade. More than 90% of drowning deaths occur in rivers, lakes, wells and domestic water storage vessels in low and middle-income countries, with children and adolescents in rural areas disproportionately affected.

So, how can we help to minimise the risk and work together to lower these statistics?

  1. Enrol in swimming lessons – Learning to swim is an essential skill especially here in Australia. To enquire about swimming lessons, you can call our Customer Support Team on 1300 252 583.
  2. Supervise children around water – This is why our facilities are equipped with a supervision policy.
  3. Check the pool and fence gates – Ensure pool fences and gates are locked at all times.
  4. Avoid alcohol and drugs around water.
  5. Wear a lifejacket.
  6. Know the conditions.
  7. Become a pool lifeguard or a swim teacher – Join our team of dedicated professionals in keeping the community safe. To find out more about employment opportunities at BlueFit, click here
  8. Learn CPR.

Every small step we individually take can help save lives.
